SPACE SHUTTLE DISCOVERY: STS-31 MISSION
Commemorative Envelope signed by all 5 crew members on the mission which deployed the Hubble Space Telescope: Shriver, Bolden, Hawley, McCandless and Sullivan
Commemorative Envelope signed: "Loren Shriver", "C F Bolden Jr", "Kathryn D. Sullivan", "Bruce McCandless II", "Steven A. Hawley", 6½x3½. Envelope postmarked Kennedy Space Center, April 24, 1990. Space shuttle mission STS-31, the 35th orbital flight and thetenth flight of Discovery, was launched the Kennedy Space Center on April 24, 1990, and returned to Edwards Air Force Base on May 1. The main purpose of this mission was to deploy the Hubble Space Telegraph, designed to operate above the Earth's obscuring atmosphere and observe celestial objects at ultraviolet, visible and near-infrared wavelengths. Hubble's deployment required Discovery to soar to its highest altitude ever: 370 miles. The record height permitted the crew to photograph earth's large scale geographic features not apparent from lower orbits. All five crew members were veterans of previous shuttle missions. LOREN J. SHRIVER was Commander, CHARLES F. BOLDEN, JR. the Pilot. Mission specialists were STEVEN A. HAWLEY, BRUCE McCANDLESS II and KATHRYN D. SULLIVAN. Toned. Soiled near bottom right corner. Otherwise, fine condition.
