Commemorative Envelope signed: "Dan Brandenstein", "J. O. Creighton", "John Fabian", "Steve Nagel", "Shannon Lucid", 6½x3½. Envelope postmarked Kennedy Space Center, June 17, 1985. Space shuttle mission STS-51G, the eighteenth orbital flight and thefifth flight of Discovery, was launched from the Kennedy Space Center on April 12, 1985 and returned to Edwards Air Force Base on June 24. The mission's crew members included DANIEL C. BRANDENSTEIN, commander; JOHN O. CREIGHTON, pilot; and Mission Specialists SHANNON W. LUCID, JOHN M. FABIAN and STEVEN R. NAGEL. Payload Specialists were PATRICK BAUDRY, of the French space agency CNES; and Saudi Prince Sultan Salman al-Saud (not signing here), the first Saudi, Moslem and royal space traveler. STS-51-G carried three communication satellites, all successfully deployed in geosynchronous orbits, the Spartan 1 retrievable package of astronomy experiments, an experimental furnace, several French biomedical experiments, six Getaway Special experiments, and a High Precision Tracking Experiment for the Strategic Defense Initiative ("Star Wars"). This was the maiden space voyage for all crew members except Brandenstein and Fabian, who were on their second missions. Corners lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
