SPARKY ANDERSON
The Hall of Fame manager signs this 5x3 card with embellished
baseball images
Printed Card Signed in Ink: "Sparky Anderson", 5x3 card
embellished with baseball images. In 1959 Anderson (1934-2010) played for the
Philadelphia Phillies. It was his first and only year in the majors. In 2000,
George "Sparky" Anderson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame,
obviously not for his record as a player. Sparky Anderson managed the
Cincinnati Reds from 1970-1978 winning five Western Division and four
National League Championships and two World Series. As manager of the Detroit
Tigers (1980-1992), Anderson won two Eastern Division Championships and one
World Series. Despite compiling the sixth most wins (2,194) of any manager in
history, Anderson was pushed into retirement after he refused to manage
replacement players during the 1994 baseball strike. (He wasn't siding with the
striking players; he just wouldn't offer the fans an inferior product.) Pencil
note on verso (unknown hand) lightly shows through at lower blank edge. Fine
condition.
