STAN KENTON and NATALIE SCHAFER They inscribe opposite sides of an album leaf, with Schafer adding a sentiment. Autograph Note signed: "For Louie/Stan Kenton", 6x4 album leaf. Also signed on verso: "To Louie/Best Wishes/Natalie Schafer". Originally a pianist in dance bands of the 1930s, STAN KENTON (1911-1979) formed his own orchestra in 1941, and began displaying his talents as a band leader and arranger. His theme song was "Artistry in Rhythm". Before long, his "progressive jazz" was scoring record and radio hits, especially after vocalist June Christie joined his band. Kenton remained a creative force in the industry long after most of the big bands had broken up, winning Grammy awards in 1962 and 1963 and experimenting with blends of  jazz and classical music (Kenton Plays Wagner) and unusual rhythms (Adventures in Time). Although the New York-born actress NATALIE SCHAFER (1900-1991) built a stage reputation for playing British aristocrats, she is best known for her role as the millionaire's wife Lovey Howell in Gilligan's Island (1964-1967). She reprised the role in three Gilligan "reunion movies" (1978, 1979 and 1981) and cartoon sequels. She played supporting roles in many films of the 1940s and 1950s. Binding holes at left edge. Corners lightly worn. Unknown stain at edges. Fine condition.
