STAN LYNDE
The cartoonist mails a photo instead of a self-caricature, because he found it impossible to keep up with demand for the latter.
Typed Letter signed: "Stan Lynde", 1 page, 8½x11. Lakeside, Montana, 1978 February 8. On personal letterhead to Charles and Pat Searle, in full: "Thank you for your letter and I am enclosing a photo of myself instead of doing a self-caricature. [Item not included.] I hope you don't mind - I learned very quickly when I started doing Rick O'Shay, that if I took the time to fulfill all the requests for drawings, I didn't have time for much else. Oh, I tried for a while, but it soon became very obvious that it was humanly impossible to keep up with the demand. I am sure you will understand and I want to thank you again for writing and for your interest! Sincerely". Stan Lynde (1931-2013), a fourth generation Montanan, is the author of 7 novels to date featuring Deputy US Marshal Merlin Fenshaw, including To Kill a Copper King. He is also a cartoonist, having written and drawn the strips Rick O'Shay, Latigo and Grass Roots. Another series featuring "Chief Sly Fox" has proven popular in Sweden! Stan and his wife Lynda founded Cottonwood Publishing to reprint his comics and publish new Western material. Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
