Inscribed photograph signed: "Alice/ St. Evstatieva" in blue ink. Color, 3¾x5. Written sentiment in Bulgarian. Written on card from the Metropolitan Opera's production of "Don Carlo". Stefka Evstatieva (b. 1947) was a Bulgarian operatic soprano who studied at the State Academy of Music in Sofia. She made her debut with the Ruse Opera as Amelia in "Un ballo in maschera" and would continue there for the next eight years. In 1974 Evstatieva won the second prized in the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, in 1978 was awarded the Grand Prize of Belgian Radio and TV Belcanto Competition, she came in first place for the 1979 Grand Prize and Golden Ring in the Young Singers Competition in Sofia, and in 1982 was awarded the Best Performance Award at the Arena di Verona. In 1978, she joined the Sofia Naitonal Opera, and from there began to appear internationally at venues such as the Vienna State Opera, the Munich State Opera, and the Arena di Verona and La Scala in Milan. She made her debut in the United States at the Philadelphia Opera in the 1983 production of "The Queen of Spades" and at the Metropolitan Opera in "Don Carlos". In 2004, Evstatieva founded the Bulgarian Children's Chorus and School Gergana in New York. Slightly toned. Corners rounded. Otherwise, fine condition.
