Inscribed Photograph Signed: "To Henry/Stephane Grappelli/Best wishes", B/w 4x5¾. Stephane Grappelli (1908-1997), originally billed as Stephane Grappelly, was a French musician best known for his work with the violin. In 1934 he, in conjunction with Django Reinhardt, formed the Quintette de Hot Club de France - one of the most influential and original jazz groups in Europe. His career began at the age of twelve, when he began studying music theory and violin. Eventually, Grappelli gained fame as a violinist in Paris. After that, Grappelli worked with numerous artists including Duke Ellington, Jean-Luc Ponty, Paul Simon, Bucky Pizzarelli, Joe Pass, and Yo Yo Ma. Grappelli's music can be heard in a multitude of films and shows including Something's Gotta Give (2003), The Sopranos (2007), and Julie & Julia (2009). He enjoyed a long and fruitful music career until, in 1997, he passed away from complications during a surgery. Fine condition.
