5x7. Stephen Birmingham (1930-2015) is an American writer who published
over 30 books, predominantly non-fiction works about wealthy people in the
United States. He organized these books by focusing on their ethnic makeup;
examples include Our Crowd: The Great Jewish Families of New York(1967),
and Certain People: America's Black Elite (1977). Birmingham also published
some fiction, although these are lesser known. His trilogy that concentrated on
wealthy Jewish families of the United States was most popular, but his book
on wealthy African-Americans proved to be controversial. Lightly bowed. Ink
notes (unknown hand) on verso. Minor surface creases (not seen head on).
