STEPHEN CHANG
The actor writes to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, sending him several materials and reference sheets for his publication
Typed letter signed: "Stephen Chang", in blue felt tip, 1 page, 8½x11. New York City, New York. June 15, 1972. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis: Thank you very much for asking me to send you my biographical data for inclusion in your THEATRE WORLD. Enclosed herwith are the data, my picture, program of my one man show, transcript of excerpt of my TV news broadcast about the show, and some press comments about my performance for your reference [items not included]". Stephen Chang is an actor and kung fu Grandmaster, owning and teaching 8 Kung Fu Schools. He began acting in stage productions off Broadway, but found more success in television and film, often being typecasted in stereotypical Asian roles. Notable films include Double Happines (1994), Saving Silverman (2001), and most recently Elysium (2013) as the Asian boss. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Toned. Light surface creases. Corners slightly worn and creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
