STEPHEN SONDHEIM
Stephen Sondheim sends a letter requesting a subscription to be started and to have it billed to him.
Typed Letter Signed: "Steve", 1p, 5¾x7¾. [New York], 1973 July 2. To Frank and Bill. In full: "I've been trying to get you on the phone -- to no avail, so I assume you're on vacation. I'd like to buy two subscriptions for the 1973/74 season in the names of Mr. and Mrs. John Forster, 342 West 22nd Street, New York, New York 10011, Apartment 2. I don't have your schedule in front of me, so I don't remember how much it costs. Would you please bill me? Happy summer. Best." With original envelope, postmarked New York, addressed to The Little Players, 41 Central Park West, New York. The Little Players is a five-member theatrical troupe created by two artists, Frank Peschka and Bill Murdock. The lyricist of West Side Story (1957) and Gypsy (1959), Stephen Sondheim was lyricist and composer of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (1962), Company (1970), Follies (1971), A Little Night Music (1973), Pacific Overtures (1976) and Sweeney Todd (1979). He won two Tonys for Best Original Score, the first for Into the Woods (1988), the second for Passion (1994). Sondheim won the 1985 Pulitzer Prize in Drama for Sunday in the Park with George.
