Autograph note signed: "Stephen Reynolds" in black ink. 1 page, 3½x5½. Sidmouth, Devon, England. Addressed on verso. In full: "Many thanks for letter & "The Prisoner". Very sorry to hear of unwellness. Please convey best wishes for recovery. When you are sending, address for February: 84 Holland Park Avenue, W.". Stephen Reynolds (1881-1919) was an English author. Educated at Manchester University and the Ecole des Mines at Paris, he became the editor of an Anglo-French review in 1902, going on to form an association with the Woolley brothers, fisherman of Sidmouth. He became so familiar with fishing and the fisherman's point of view and became a recognized authority on the subject. Reynolds was a member of the committee of inquiry into Devon and Cornwall fisheries in 1912, and the following year was appointed adviser on inshore fisheries to the Development Commission. His publications include A Poor Man's House (1908), The Holy Mountain (1909), Alongshore (1910), The Lower Deck, the Navy and the Nation (1912) and How 'Twas: Short Stories and Small Travels (1912). Toned. Corners rounded. Slightly soiled. Light surface creases. Ink stamp on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
