Typed Letter signed: "Sterling North". 2p. 8 ½ x11, Russell Birdwell and Associates letterhead, Beverly Hills, California, 1945 June 1. Carbon copy with original signatures of a letter of agreement and understanding to confirm verbal agreement for Birdwell to represent North for a period of five years - for a fee of $1000.00 plus 10% of earnings except for his contract with Disney. Letter is co-signed by Russell Birdwell on behalf of Russell Birdwell and Associates. Thomas Sterling North (1906-1974) was an American author best known for his children's books. After attending the University of Chicago, he began his writing career as a reporter at the Chicago Daily News, the New York World-Telegram and then the New York Sun - then going free lance. Early successes include Midnight and Jeremiah was made into the Disney movie So Dear to my Heart (1949), Able Lincoln: Log Cabin to White House, Raccoons are the Brightest People, and Hurry Spring. Published in 1963, Rascal, his most famous work, received a Newbery Honor 1964, Sequoyah Book Award in 1966, A Young Reader's Choice Award 1966, and was made into a Disney movie in 1969. In addition, Rascal was made into a 52-eposode Japanese anime titled Araiguma Rasukaru (Racoon Rascal). Mrs. Bale has written a letter on verso-forwarding it. Creased at edges and heavily toned.
