STEVE BOROS
Shown as the manager of the San Diego Padres on this 3½x5 post card
Photograph signed: "Steve Boros" Color, 3½x5. Steve Boros (1936-2010) was a slick-fielding,
weak-hitting third baseman for the Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds. A
coach for the KC Royals and then the Expos (1981-1982), he later managed the Oakland
A's and the San Diego Padres. In both cases, the easy-going Boros was hired to replace a
fiery manager (Billy Martin, Dick Williams) at odds with his players. Boros was a major
proponent of base stealing, helping to turn players like Willie Wilson and Tim Raines into
first-class base thieves. Fine condition.
