Singer and actorSteve Lawrence(b. 1935) began recording music when he was just 16 years of age. His first single, “Poinciana”, was released in 1952 and peaked at number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Dozens of singles would break into the Top 100 over the course of his music career, which lasted from 1952 to 1979. In 1957, Lawrence married singer Eydie Gormé. They remained personal and professional partners until her death in 2013, but he continued to release music as a solo artist in addition to their duets. He recorded his first No. 1 hit in 1963 with "Go Away, Little Girl". The next year, he received a Tony nomination for his performance in What Makes Sammy Run? . As an actor, his television credits include The Steve Lawrence-Eydie Gormé Show (1958) and The Steve Lawrence Show (1965), frequent performances in skits on The Carol Burnett Show, guest hosting The Tonight Show (1962) and guest appearances on TV variety shows, games shows and series. Lawrence also earned credits in several feature films, including The Blues Brothers (1980), The Blues Brothers 2000 (1998) and Ocean's 11 (2001). The couple, who met while Steve was a regular on Steve Allen's Tonight! show, has appeared together in nightclubs and on television. Lawrence won a Primetime Emmy Award for the television special Steve & Eydie Celebrate Irving Berlin (1978). Steve and Eydie frequently performed popular hits such as many of Berlin's songs, so they were a natural choice to host the production. Fine condition.
