STEVE MARTIN
Five years before his Saturday Night Live appearances made him famous, Martin accepts a temporary script writer's position at $468 a week.
Contract signed: "Steve Martin". 1 page, 8½x11. No place, 1972 April 24. Inter-Office Correspondence on William Morris Agency, Inc. letterhead. Terms agreed to between Blye/Beard Productions and Martin for his billing as a Writer on the W.O.W. Summer Series, commencing on or about April 10, 1972 for a minimum of five shows and a maximum of seven shows over an 11-week period at the rate of $468 per week. Actor, comedian, writer, playwright and producer Steve Martin went into standup comedy full-time in the late 1960s. His big break came when he was guest host on NBC's Saturday Night Live in 1977. His offbeat and irreverent humor made him an instant celebrity. Martin carefully developed his persona: the well groomed, immaculately dressed young man who goes against his appearance by behaving like a lunatic. He released four comedy albums between 1977 and 1981, winning Grammy awards for Let's Get Small and A Wild and Crazy Guy. He also received a gold record for his hit comedy song, "King Tut." Martin wrote his first book, Cruel Shoes, in 1977. His films include The Jerk, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, All of Me, Roxanne, Parenthood and Father of the Bride. Horizontal folds. Staple holes at upper left corner. Fine condition.
