STEVE WINWOOD. Photograph signed: "Steve Winwood". Color,
10x8 overall, image 10x7 (one surface). Captioned at upper background in
Spanish: "Cantù 29 November 1980". British rocker Steve Winwood (born in 1948)
had his first No. 1 single with "Higher Love", a track from his 1986
album, Back in the High Life. A talented musician (piano, guitar, drums)
and composer as well as vocalist, Winwood had his first major success with the
Spencer Davis Group (1963-1967), for whom he sang vocals beginning at age
15. In 1967, he was a founder of the group, Traffic (1967-1969), which
reunited on his album, John Barleycorn Must Die, in 1970 before
permanently disbanding in 1974 (he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame with Traffic in 2004). Winwood, who also teamed up briefly with
friend Eric Clapton in the group, Blind Faith, began his solo career in
1977. In addition to being heard on such hits as "Higher Love", "Valerie" and
"While You See a Chance", Winwood has been seen on the big screen in Blues
Brothers 2000 (1998) and on the TV special, The Who Live, Featuring the
Rock Opera Tommy (1989, as the Hawker), and he has been a musical guest on
several talk shows from 1967-2005. Minor surface smudges (not evident head on).
