Typed letter signed: "Steven Leonard" in blue ink. 1 page,
7x9½. Chicago, Illinois. November 4, 1939. In full: "Dear Eleanor:
It's a pleasure to again have the opportunity of saying "Hello" to you. In
addition I've got a surprise for you this coming Wednesday, November 8th. And
it's no less an occasion than the introduction of a brand new song entitled
"Darling Mary Ann". I believe this number is going to be a smash hit that will
soon be number one on everyone's hit parade. I'll be looking forward to seeing
you on Wednesday and getting your opinion on the new song hit. Just in case you
can't be with us be sure to listen in on Radio Station WGN over the Mutual
Network at 9 pm Central Standard Time and then send me a letter or post card
telling me what you think of the new number. I'll appreciate it very much and
will be looking for you or your letter. Right Cordially". Post
script: "We are leaving Chicago very shortly and starting on a tour -
when we reach your town, won't you look me up and say Hello!". Steven
Leonard was a 1930s and 40s big band orchestra leader from Chicago. Their
most well-known song is "Darling Mary Ann" which debuted in 1939. Normal
mailing fold. Very toned. Worn and soiled. Affixed to irregularly cut piece of
construction paper. Stained throughout. Otherwise, fine
condition.
