The Washington Editor of "The Saturday Evening Posts" thanks a correspondent
for her "interesting and thoughtful letter".
TLS: "Steward Alsop" as Washington Editor, 1p, 6¼x7.
Washington, D.C., 1962 June 25. On letterhead of The Saturday Evening
Post, Washington Editorial Rooms to Mrs. Corinne R. Manning, Washington, D.C.
In full: "Thank you for your interesting and thoughtful letter. It
gave me pleasure. Yours sincerely". Journalist and political analyst
Stewart Alsop (1914-1974) wrote a regular column for "The Saturday Evening
Post" from 1958-1968 before going on to write a weekly column for
"Newsweek" from 1968-1974. A veteran of WWII, Alsop had previously
co-written, with his brother, Joseph, the "Matter of Fact" column for the "New
York Herald Tribune". Stewart, who was based in Washington, D.C., covered
domestic politics while Joseph, who covered foreign affairs, traveled the world
for material for his stories. Slightly creased with fold, not at signature.
Mounting remnants on verso show through at blank corners, light mounting stain
at lower left corner. Overall, fine condition.
