THE STORY OF ALEXANDER GRAHAM BELL: DON AMECHE and LORETTA YOUNG
The two Academy Award winning performers are shown in a scene from the film in black and white.
Photograph signed: "Don Ameche" and "Best Wishes/Loretta Young". B/w, 10x8. The Story of Alexander Graham Bell, a fictionalized biography of the famed inventor's life, provided DON AMECHE with his signature role. For years after its 1939 release, people even referred to the telephone as an "Ameche" and fans quipped that it was Ameche, not Bell, who invented the telephone. LORETTA YOUNG played Mabel Hubbard, a deaf girl. After her aristocratic father asks Bell to teach her how to speak, they fall in love and marry. It is she who inspires and encourages Bell to invent the telephone. In 1947, Young won the Academy Award for Best Actress (The Farmer's Daughter). In 1985, Ameche won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (Cocoon). Fine condition.
