STUART ROBSON and EUGENIE BLAIR
The actor and actress sign opposite sides of a 6x4 page
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Sincerely from/Stuart Robson/1891" and on verso "Yours Very Sincerely/Eugenie Blair/November Irish/1888", 6x4 page. Stuart Robson (1836-1903), born Henry Robson Stuart, was an American comedic stage actor known for his distinctive voice, often called "the Robson squeak." He appeared on stage for 40 years, collapsing on stage at his final performance only days before his death. For twenty years he formed a comedy team with William Henry Crane; they were especially popular as the two Dromios in Shakespeare's A Comedy of Errors. Eugenie Blair (c. 1868-1922) was born in South Carolina, but made her professional debut in Chicago. She toured with the D.P. Powers and James O'Neill companies, and then played supporting roles in Frederick B. Warde's company during the mid-1880's, winning modest praise in New York Times reviews. By 1888 she was playing in Robert Downing's company; they were married by 1891, and divorced by 1910. She continued active in the theater, performing character roles on Broadway as she aged. She died after suffering a heart attack backstage during a performance of Eugene O'Neill's Anna Christie (1921), for which she created the role of Marthy. Blair's daughter was actress Eleanor Montell. Lightly creased. Lightly worn at edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
