"Sugar Babies: The Burlesque Musical" had opened on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on October 8, 1979 and closed on August 28, 1982 after 1208 performances. The musical revue, which starred Ann Miller and Mickey Rooney (in his Broadway debut), was nominated for 1980 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score and Best Actor in a Musical (Rooney). JANE SUMMERHAYS is a Broadway and screen actress. She acted as understudy and second string to Ann Miller during the revue of "Sugar Babies: The Burlesque Musical" and has since had parts in "Me and My Girl", "Taking Steps", and "Cabaret". Later she had TV appearances on Law & Order, Sex and the City, and Ed. Vaudeville performer PHIL FORD (1919-2005) was best known for his comedy routine alongside his wife Mimi Hines, alongside whom he got his big showbiz break when they appeared on Jack Paar's The Tonight Show (1958), after which they became regulars on the late night circuit, performing on Johnny Carson, Ed Sullivan, Dean Martin, Bobby Darin, Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin. Together they appeared on Broadway in "Funny Girl" (1965) and in the same year together in the movie Saturday Night in Apple Valley (1965). However, they will always be best remember for their comedy acts in Las Vegas, which Ford continued alone after their 1972 divorce. Broadway actor JAY STUART made his Broadway debut in the musical "Cry for Us All" (1970) and in the next decade went on to appear in "The Pajama Game" (1973), "The Grand Tour" (1979), Sugar Babies (1980), and "The Music Man" (1980). FRANK OLIVIER began his entertainment career at the age of 13, juggling and performing on the streets of San Francisco. He attended the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Clown College after high school. While on his first trip to New York, theatre producers spotted his talents, and quickly signed him on to perform for the next three years in the Broadway touring hit show "Sugar Babies". Olivier has had a number of television appearances including The Tonight Show, HBO's Just for Laughs, and shows for PBS, HBO, BBC, Disney and more. One critic called MICKEY DEEMS (1925-2014) a vaudeville performer born too late for the genre. He and burlesque comedian Joey Faye brought that style to a short-lived TV series, Mack and Myer for Hire (1963). He was seen on TV for nearly 40 years, from The Jackie Gleason Show (1954) to Trapper John, M.D. (1982), with recurring roles on Car 54, Where Are You (1961-1963) and Hizzoner (1979). Deems made his first Broadway appearance in the revue "Alive and Kicking" (1950), and appeared in the hit show "Little Me" (1962-1963). JEFF DUNHAM (b. 1962) is an American ventriloquist, producer, and stand-up comedian. He began ventriloquism in 1970 at age eight, when his parents gave him a Mortimer Snerd dummy for Christmas, and an accompanying how-to album. Throughout his adolescence, and during college, Dunham would perform wherever he could, honing his talents and trying to gain a larger audience. He caught a break in 1985 when he was asked to join the Broadway show "Sugar Babies" with Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller. Dunham fulfilled a ten-year goal when he and Peanut appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson on April 6, 1990, alongside guests Bob Hope and B.B. King. He currently has six specials that run on Comedy Central, including Jeff Dunham: Arguing with Myself, Jeff Dunham: Controlled Chaos, and Jeff Dunham: All Over the Map. He also starred in The Jeff Dunham Show, a series on the network in 2009. Entertainer JULIE MILLER made her professional debut on the Lawrence Welk show at the age of 16. She's headlined major venues around the world, including The Dunes in Las Vegas, multiple showrooms in Atlantic City, and a couple in Monte Carlo, and has starred in "Sugar", "Follies on Broadway", and "Sugar Babies: The Burlesque Musical" with Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller. After making a name for herself in the showgirl spotlight, Miller sought to become a dramatic actress. She created the character for the play "Marilyn . . . In Her Own Words", which she performed before audiences in Cape Town, South Africa throughout the early 1990s. Lightly toned and creased. Lower right blank corner of page 7 torn off, stray ink mark on page 18. Otherwise, fine condition.
