THE SUGARLAND EXPRESS MOVIE CAST: STEVEN SPIELBERG, GOLDIE HAWN
Laserdisc cover for The Sugarland Express signed by director Spielberg and female lead Hawn. This was the first wide-release feature film directed by Spielberg. His next film was Jaws.
Laserdisc cover signed: "Steven/Spielberg" and "Goldie/Hawn". Color, 12¼x12¼. Disc not included. ©1974 Universal Pictures, ©1990 MCA Home Video, Inc. The Sugarland Express (1974) is based on a true story and was the first wide-release feature film directed by Spielberg; his next was the summer blockbuster Jaws (1975). Hawn starred as Lou Jean Poplin, a mother who convinced her husband to break out of jail to help her kidnap her baby from its foster parents. Spielberg was nominated for the Palme d'Or and shared an award for Best Screenplay for The Sugarland Express at the Cannes Film Festival. The most commercially successful filmmaker in Hollywood history, STEVEN SPIELBERG, born in 1946, is lifelong cinema buff who began directing his first short movies while still a child. He earned an Oscar nomination for Raiders. He later won Academy Awards for Best Director for Schindler's List (1994) and Saving Private Ryan (1999), and Spielberg was additional Best Director Oscar nominations for Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (1982). His long list of directing and producing credits includes Jaws, The Color Purple (1985), Back to the Future (1985), Cape Fear (1991), Hook (1991), Jurassic Park (1993), Twister (1996), Men in Black (1997), Amistad (1997), The Mask of Zorro (1998), A.I.: Artificial Intelligence (2001), Catch Me If You Can (2002), Minority Report (2002), The Terminal (2004), War of the Worlds (2005) and Munich (2005). Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), a thrill-a-minute yarn which paid homage to the serial films of the past, earned $200 million in its first run and spawned three sequels. Multi-talented, ditzy blonde GOLDIE HAWN, born in 1945, first received national attention as a dancer on Laugh-In (1968-1970), the innovative comedy-variety show hosted by Dan Rowan and Dick Martin. In 1969, she made her acting debut as Walter Matthau's bohemian mistress in Cactus Flower, winning the Best Supporting Actress Oscar. Later that year, Hawn starred with Peter Sellers in There's a Girl in My Soup (1970) before showing her talent for drama in Butterflies are Free (1972) and Sugarland Express (1973). Hawn later starred in Private Benjamin (1980, for which she received a Best Actress Oscar nomination), Protocol (1984) The First Wives Club (1996), The Out-of-Towners (1999) and The Banger Sisters (2002). Lightly scuffed and creased.
