Inscribed Printed Photograph signed: "Best Wishes / Johnny / Rod Taylor" and "Jane / Fonda" in
black felt tip, B/w 10x8. Publicity photograph for the 1963 film Sunday in New York. The
film was nominated for a Golden Globe. Rod Taylor (1930-2015) made his film debut in the
Australian film The Stuart Exposition (1951) and his Hollywood debut in The Virgin Queen
(1955). His long list of feature films includes Giant (1956), Separate Tables (1958), The
Time Machine (1960), and The Birds and A Gathering of Eagles (both 1963). Taylor
also appeared in a number of television movies and several series, including Hong Kong (1961),
The Oregon Trail (1975), and Outlaws (1986). He starred in the Australian comedy Welcome
to Woop Woop (1997), and, in his final screen role, played Winston Churchill in Quentin
Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds (2009). Henry Fonda's daughter Jane Fonda (b. 1937)
followed in his footsteps into the entertainment industry. According to Fonda herself, Lee
Strasberg's claim that she had real talent at acting was what convinced her to throw herself into
the profession at a young age. Throughout the 1950s, she performed in stage productions.
These eventually led to appearances on Broadway and the screen. Fonda earned her
reputation as a star in 1965 when she starred in the Western comedy Cat Ballou. For her
performance she received a Golden Laurel and a Golden Globe nomination. Perhaps her
most famous early starring role is her titular role in Barbarella (1968), a campy science
fiction film that was directed by her then-husband Roger Vadim. The movie, which
featured the actress scantily clad and is based on an adult comic strip, has become a cult film. It
cemented her status as a sex symbol. Other films she starred in over the ensuing decades
include Fun With Dick and Jane (1977), Nine to Five (1980), and On Golden Pond (1981).
The latter film co-starred her father Henry Fonda and is the only film the two ever
appeared in together. During the 1980s, she began to produce and star in exercise videos
that were wildly successful. Her dozens of videos have sold tens of millions of copies.
After a 15-year hiatus from acting that began when she married Ted Turner, she returned to
the silver screen with a starring role opposite Jennifer Lopez in Monster in Law (2005). She
divorced the media mogul in 2001, ending her third marriage. Other more recent projects
include Lee Daniels' The Butler (2013) and This is Where I Leave You (2014). Her many
awards for her stage and screen performances include two Academy Awards (out of seven
total nominations), seven Golden Globes (fifteen nominations), one Emmy Award (four
nominations), two BAFTAs (six nominations), and two Tony Award nominations.
