Winifred Maurice Harrison (1920-1990) was given the name SUNSET CARSON by
Republic Studios, for whom he starred in a number of western films in the
mid-1940s. He starred in his own film series, beginning with The Sheriff
of Cimarron (1945). He hosted a TV film revival series, Six Gun
Heroes. PEGGY STEWART (born Peggy O'Rourke in 1923), who appeared in
many films, mostly Westerns, from the late 1930s into the 1960s, was one of
Republic Picture's leading ladies in the 1940s. Tired of being cast in
serials, she left Republic, but continued making occasional films. Stewart later
appeared in several made-for-TV movies and was a guest star on a number of TV
series, and she made stage appearances in the Los Angeles area. Stewart, was
married to actors Don "Red" Barry (1940-1944) and Buck Young (1953
until his death in 2000). Carson and Stewart appeared together in many
Republic Pictures westerns between 1944 and 1946, including Firebrands of
Arizona, Oregon Trail, Bandits of the Badlands, Rough
Riders of Cheyenne, Days of Buffalo Bill, Alias Billy the Kid
and Red River Renegades. Both were popular on the film nostalgia circuit.
