SUPERMAN AND THE MOLE MEN
Superman fans weren't limited to the United States. This poster is from the French release of the 1951 Superman feature film Superman and the Mole Men, which was released as Superman et les Nains de L'enfer - or Superman and the Hell Dwarfs - in France. The art is the same as the American movie poster, and the colors are extraordinarily vibrant. A wonderful piece of movie and comic book history.
Poster unsigned. Color, 31½x46¾ overall, 28¼x43½ image, one surface. Titled in French, rough translation: "Superman and the Hell Dwarfs". Captioned in French, rough translation: "The extraordinary and unbeatable one in his new film adventures". This is the French version of the movie poster for the feature film Superman and the Mole Men (1951), starring George Reeves as Superman and Phyllis Coates as plucky-but-eternally-endangered reporter Lois Lane. The art for this poster is the same as that for the United States release; only the language and size (the French poster is slightly larger than its American version) are different. The colors are extraordinarily vibrant for such an old poster, which is in excellent condition. In this feature film, released before the classic Superman TV show (1952-1958), an attempt to drill the world's deepest oil well penetrates the underground home of a race of small, furry people who then come to the surface at night to look around. The townspeople form a mob intent on killing the strange people. Only Superman has a chance to prevent a tragedy. The film was later seen as the two-part "Unknown People" episode on the Superman TV series. Reeves went on to play Superman in the TV series, andCoates carried over her role as Laneto the first season of the TV series (1952-1953). In 1994, Coates appeared in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993-1997)... as Lois Lane's mother! One of the Mole Men was Jerry Maren in an uncredited role. You may recognize him (under all that makeup) as leader of the Lollypop Guild in The Wizard of Oz (1939). Lightly toned and creased. Folded once vertically and thrice horizontally. Worn along folds, with holes at intersections. Light tears along right edge along folds and along bottom edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
