THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN
Leather blackjack used as a prop on the series, authenticated by a member of the show's art and set department
Ephemera, unsigned. Leather blackjack with hand strap 15¼x¼, used as a prop on the TV series. Accompanied by typed note from George Bahr, dated 1977 July 5, reading in full: "This leather black jack was used as a prop on the 1952 to 1958 syndicated tv show the Adventures of Superman. I worked in the art/set department." Superman, the man of steel performing heroic good deeds while disguised as a mild mannered reporter, originated from a comic book in 1938, became a radio series in 1940, and then made the leap to movie serials and features before becoming the TV series The Adventures of Superman (1952-1958). Superman has been with us ever since, spawning new feature films and more television fare, including an animated series, while the DC Comic still prospers. However, many consider the TV series of the 1950s, with George Reeves in the title role, as in the two feature films which preceded it; Phyllis Coates and then Noel Neill as Lois Lane, Jack Larson as Jimmy Olsen; John Hamilton as Perry White; and Robert Shayne as Inspector Henderson, to be the definitive version. Fine condition.
