SUSAN BLOCH
The Broadway press agent writes to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, writing that he is "extraordinary"
Autograph letter signed: "Susan", 1 page (front and verso), 5x7¾. Included is the original mailing envelope. 1975. In full: "Dear John. You are extraordinary. How - whilst editing, teaching, etc., etc., etc. you can manage to both remember my birthday + send a card + a lovely wish is beyond me - It was such a nice surprise - + most appreciated. Life since leaving S.C. is different, full + interesting but I do miss being directly involved with a theatre. How are you? Is this the last teaching year? Won't that be grand? Much love". Susan Bloch (1940-1982) was a Broadway press agent, doing press for several Broadway plays, including The Country Wife (1965), The Time of Your Life (1969), A Taste of Honey (1981), and André Heller's Wonderhouse (1991). She also formed a press company titled Susan Bloch & Company. John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Corners slightly worn. Fine condition.
