SUSAN L. MITCHELL
Letter regretting that her editor has refused to release to allow use of one of her poems in an anthology, and claiming she has nothing new to offer worthy of inclusion.
Autograph Letter signed: "Susan Mitchell", 2 pages, 4x6. The Pluckett House, Merrion Square, 1914 July 16. To "Dear Mr. Graves", in full: "I am very sorry Mr. Roberts has refused my poems for your anthology. I should have felt honoured to be included. Alas my green sleeve holds nothing very good, & I should only like to be represented in your anthology by one of my best! Yours sincerely". Irish journalist and poet Susan Langstaff Mitchell (1866-1926) was assistant editor of the Irish Homestead, and later the Irish Statesman. Her first volume of satirical verse was published in 1908. Mitchell was a friend of notable Irish literary figures, including William Butler Yeats, Padraic Colum and George Moore. (She wrote a critical study of the latter's writings.). Normal mailing fold. Lightly worn. Lightly creased. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
