British actress Susannah York (1941-2011) garnered both Academy Award and Golden Globe Best Supporting Actress nominations in 1969 for her role as aspiring actress Alice in They Shoot Horses, Don't They? The star of stage and screen has appeared in a number of feature films since making her film debut in 1960 in Tunes of Glory. Her credits include Tom Jones (1963), A Man For All Seasons (1966), The Killing of Sister George (1968), Superman: The Movie (1978), Superman II (1980), The Awakening (1980), Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987) and Visitors (2003), and York has also appeared in a number of made-for-TV movies, including Jane Eyre (1971) and A Christmas Carol (1984).
