SUZY PARKER
B/w photo of model and actor Suzy Parker posing in a shawl and evening gown, signed with her married name and a heart in 1984
Inscribed photograph signed "Suzy/Parker/(Gillman)/9/8/84/[heart]/for Pedro!". Pencil notation on verso in unknown hand. B/w, 8¼x10 overall, 7½x9¼ image, one surface. Ironically, cover girl Parker (1933-2003), born Cecelia Anne Renee Parker, was once turned down by modeling agent Eileen Ford as being too tall. She went on to become the standard for models in the 1950s, representing both Coco Chanel and Revlon. At one point, she was the highest paid model in the industry, earning $200 an hour. She broke into films in 1957's Funny Face (Audrey Hepburn's character was reportedly based on Parker), and went on to appear in 18 movies and TV shows, including starring roles with Cary Grant (Kiss Them for Me, 1957) and Gary Cooper (Ten North Frederick, 1958) and a starring role in the seminal Twilight Zone episode Number 12 Looks Just Like You. She retired from the bright lights to married life in 1968 with her third husband, Bradford Dillman. Lightly toned, cracked, creased and bowed. Pen skipped while writing signature, which is legible. Lightly rounded corners. Light impressions and scratches on image (not visible head-on). Otherwise in fine condition.
