B/w, 10x8. Western musician and actor CAL SHRUM (1910-1996) is best
known for his work with two groups, the Colorado Hillbillies (with his
brother Walt) and his own spin-off group, the Rhythm Rangers. The Shrum
brothers broadened their exposure to an entire nation of fans after an
appearance in the 1938 Gene Autry film, The Old Barn Dance. Cal
went on to appear in another eight films through 1949, including Swing,
Cowboy, Swing (which he produced as well as starred in). Shrum, who had a
popular hit with "Heaven Bound Train", a tribute to Hank Williams, also
launched the careers of a number of country stars, including Tex
Williams, before he became a radio performer in Springfield, Illinois in the
1960s. American actress ALTA LEE (1924-2010) was born in Spalding, Illinois.
After beginning her career as a cabaret singer, she appeared as a singer in
the 1940 film Scatterbrain where she met actor Cal Shrum. The two
married and appeared together in two western musicals Swing, Cowboy,
Swing (1946) and Trouble at Melody Mesa (1949). Shrum and Lee were
the top-billed stars of Swing, Cowboy, Swing, playing second leads
behind Brad King and Lorraine Miller in Trouble at Melody Mesa. Corners
