Canadian actor WALTER PIDGEON (1898-1984), who had his first leading roles in silent films, earned Best Actor Academy Award nominations for Mrs. Miniver (1942) and Madame Curie (1943). He had prominent roles in many other successful films, including The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), Forbidden Planet (1956), Advise and Consent (1962) and Funny Girl (1968). He received a Tony nomination as Best Actor in a Musical for Take Me Along (1960). LARAINE DAY (1917-2007) reached stardom as Nurse Lamont opposite Lew Ayres in a series of six Dr. Kildare films (1939-1942). Other starring roles for Day included Hitchcock's Foreign Correspondent (1940< The Story of Dr. Wassell (1944), My Dear Secretary (1948) and The High and the Mighty (1954). She hosted a TV program in 1951, and was married to baseball manager Leo Durocher from 1947-1960. Swiss Family Robinson, originally an 1812 novel by Johann David Wyss, has inspired several movies and TV series, including this one featuring Pidgeon and Day as the father and mother of the shipwrecked family.
