Captioned in lower margin. After seeing his first color-casted movie and stage
show on his 8th birthday, Sy Richardson (b.1941) dedicated his life to
becoming a performer. In his high school years he avoided Chicago gangs by
joining a doo-wop group called Lil June (originally the Wonderliers),
recording his first song "Oh What a Feeling." After serving two years in
the United States Navy, Richardson moved to Hollywood to act in vaudeville. He
landed his first on screen role in the musical comedy Cinderella
in 1977, playing the Fairy Godmother. Since then he has appeared consistently in
films, with memorable roles in Repo Man (1984), Men at Work
(1990), Human Nature (2001) and Larry Crown (2011). He
has over 50 television appearances, many of which on popular Black sitcoms
such as Martin (1995), Malcolm and Eddie (1997) and The
Black Soap (2012). An acting and directing teacher, Richardson wrote the
screenplay for the popular Black film Posse (1993). A Christian, he
taught Sunday school for at West Angeles Church of God in Christ in Los Angeles,
California. Slightly soiled on verso (no show through). Fine
