Cartoonist for The New Yorkersends an original 6x9 drawing of a caveman holding an apple

Inscribed Original Art Signed: "Dear Robert Searle -/ I'm so glad/ you like/ me./ Stanley/ and/ Syd/ Hoff/ 1979" in black felt tip, 6x9. Depicts caveman character holding a club and an apple. Syd Hoff (1912-2004) was an American children's book author and cartoonist. At the age of eighteen he sold his first cartoon to The New Yorker and would go on to sell five hundred and seventy one of them to the publication. He became very well known for his cartoons in this publication. He drew two syndicated comic strips Tuffy (1939-1949) and Laugh It Off (1958-1978). He had his own television show Tales of Hoff in which he told stories and drew for the audience. He illustrated and wrote over sixty volumes in the Harper Collins "I Can Read" series for children beginning to read. His two most famous books Sammy the Seal and Danny the Dinosaur sold ten million copies which have been translated into over ten languages. Right edge frayed. Corners creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
