SYDNEY BRENNER, H. ROBERT HORVITZ and JOHN SULSTON
All three recipients of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Medicine sign a composite photo.
Photograph signed: "Sydney Brenner", "H. Robert Horvitz" and "John Sulston". Color, 8x10. The photo includes Alfred Nobel's original statement bequeathing his estate to capitalize a fund " ... the interest on which shall be annually distributed as prizes to those who, during the preceding year, shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind. ..." Above and below the statement are superimposed images of the front and verso of the Nobel medallion. In 2002, SYDNEY BRENNER of the Molecular Sciences Institute, Berkeley, California; H. ROBERT HORVITZ of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Massachusetts; and JOHN E. SULSTON, of the Sanger Centre, Cambridge, U.K., were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine "for their discoveries concerning genetic regulataion of organ development and programmed cell death." Alfred Nobel (1833-1996), a Swedish chemist and arms manufacturer and the inventor of dynamite, bequeathed his estate for the annual awards. Nobel is said to have conceived after he read a premature obituary claiming that he had devoted his life to finding ways to kill more people faster. Fine condition.
