SYDNEY GREENSTREET. Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Rudy/Happy days/Sydney Greenstreet". B/w with sepia hue, 7¾x10. Sydney Greenstreet (1879-1954), who made his film debut at age 62 in The Maltese Falcon (1941), readily established himself as a villain with panache. As Kaspar Gutman in that film, the English stage actor quickly established himself in Hollywood. Stolen passports and Rick Blaine's (Humphrey Bogart) competition at drinking establishments in Casablanca (1942) kept Greenstreet busy as Ferrari in that classic film. During his nine years in movies, he mastered villainy, especially when paired with actor Peter Lorre. Greenstreet appeared in 25 films in his brief career, including Passage to Marseille (1944), The Verdict (1946), Flamingo Road (1949) and Malaya (1950, his last film). Slightly creased and soiled at blank margins, light crease at the "G" of Greenstreet. Fine condition. Framed in the Gallery of History style: 15½x25½.
