Price: $280.00
SYDENY MORGAN
Note from Morgan sending her compliments to Mr. Willis, and
apologizes for sending duplicates to him a second time
Third person autograph note as Lady Morgan, 4½x7¼. In full:
"Lady Morgan presents her comps. To Mr Willis and thanks him again.
Duplicates which were sent by mistake a second time". Beneath is a note
written by Miss Clarke asking Mr. Willis for a song. Ango-Irish novelist
Sydney Morgan (1781-1859) took London by storm with The Wild Irish Girl
(1806), a paean of praise to Ireland. She became the companion of the
Marquess of Abercorn, who in 1812 arranged her marriage to a surgeon,
Sir Thomas Charles Morgan. As a married woman she continued to produce
verses, essays and novels, including O'Donnel (1814) - considered her
best novel - and France (1817), a breezy, journalistic survey of French
society and politics which drew criticism for its praise of the French
revolution. Multiple folds. Light surface creases. Slightly toned. Lightly
soiled. Pencil notes (unknown hand). Bottom edge frayed. Stray markings across.
Otherwise, fine condition.
