Sydney Pollack signs a document for the Director's Guild of America, Inc.
Typed Document Signed: "Sydney Pollack", 1p, 8½x11. Hollywood, California, 1961 February 9. Director's Guild of America, Inc./Schedule of Director's Dues. "Confidential" typed at upper margin. Pollack has dated the form, printed his name and address and entered "Zero" on the line for his 1960 gross earnings and "$10,000" on the line for his estimated earnings for 1961. Pollack did not make his directorial debut until 1965 (The Slender Thread). In 1960, he had appeared on an episode of The Twilight Zone, and Pollack would not appear in another credited role until 1962, when he was in War Hunt. Director, producer, executive producer and actor Sydney Pollack (1934-2008) won the 1985 Academy Award for Best Director for Out of Africa and was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Director in 1969 (They Shoot Horses, Don't They?) and 1982 (Tootsie, in which he also appeared). He also directed This Property is Condemned (1966), The Way We Were (1973), Three Days of The Condor (1975), The Electric Horseman (1979), Absence of Malice (1981), The Firm (1993), Sabrina (1995) and Random Hearts (1999) and the early TV series The Defenders, The Naked City, The Fugitive, Dr. Kildare and Ben Casey. Pollack was also the producer of The Fabulous Baker Boys (1989) and Presumed Innocent (1990) and executive producer of Iris (2001) and The Talented Mr. Ripley (1999). He appeared in Husbands and Wives (1992), Sense and Sensibility (1995) and Eyes Wide Shut (1999) and guest starred on the TV series The Twilight Zone (1960), Frasier (1994) and Mad About You (1998) as well as early TV dramas. Folds, horizontal fold touches the last line of address. Initials (unknown hand) beneath address line, date stamp at upper right margin. Fine condition.
