Autograph Letter signed: "Sydney Ringer", 3 pages (integral leaf), 4½x7¼. 15 Cavendish Place, Cavendish Square [London]. 1868 January 7. To "My dear Dr. Reynolds", in full: "Pray forgive my neglect in not answering your last letter. The fact is I put it aside & forgot about it. I spoke to Cleef [?] on the matter you refer to but he declined giving any lectures as he has other plans in view. Will you please let me have the article on measles as I have some important things to alter which I will explain to you. Yours sincerely". English physician Sydney Ringer (1836-1920) spent 40 years at University College Library (London), from his residency in1860 until his retirement in 1900. Although he did important laboratory research, Ringer always emphasized patient care. A poor lecturer, he was considered a brilliant bedside teacher. His Handbook of Therapeutics (1869), went through 13 editions. He introduced new intravenous fluids, including Ringer's Solution and Ringer's Lactate. Normal mailing folds. Lightly toned. Corners slightly worn. Adhesive residue on verso. Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso. Fine condition.
