The actress writes to John Willis, Editor of Theatre World, to
correct him in a printing error and telling him to be more careful next
time
Autograph letter signed: "Sylvia O'Brien", in red ink, 1 page,
4x6. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis, Due to an error in printing, I
appeared listed as "Sylvia Saunders" in your 1964 issue in "Passion of Josef D"
- a composite of my name and Nick Saunders - Please be careful this time, won't
you? Thanks". Actress Sylvia O'Brien (1924-2006) appeared on Broadway
for 20 plus years, debuting in The Passion of Josef D. (1964).
Other plays include The Right Honourable Gentleman (1965), Dear
Oscar (1972), and Me and My Girl (1986). She never quite made the
transition to television, and only appeared in minor roles. John A. Willis
(1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief
editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one
of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing
(and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the
nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which
received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues
under chief editor Ben Hodges. Corners lightly worn and creased. Light surface
creases. Lightly toned. Small tear on top margin. Otherwise, fine
