SYLVIE STRAUS
Actress sends letter to John Willis, editor of Theatre World, thanking him for their lovely chat the day prior
Autograph letter signed: "Sylvie Straus" in black ink. 1 page, 6x9. August 13, 1969. In full: "Dear Mr. Willis - Sorry I disturbed you at work yesterday. Without further adieu, my additional vital statistics are: Born June 28, 1923 in N.Y.C. and dropped out of Hunter in my Junior year. Someday I'll pick up those 11 credits and get my degree! Do hope you will decide to relax "in" a good movie, say, "Goodbye Columbus", and keep an eye peeled for Aunt Gladys. Thanks for the lovely chat. Sincerely". Actress Sylvie Straus (b. 1923) only had one performance on Broadway in the play Inquest (1970). Straus' television credits include Vega$ (1979) and Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color (1987), and she appeared in the films Goodbye, Columbus (1969) and The Electric Horseman (1979). John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until 2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards. Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Normal mailing folds. Slightly toned. Bottom edge frayed. Otherwise, fine condition.
