is an Armenian-American alternative metal band, which produced 5 studio albums
and secured 4 Grammy nominations between 1998 and 2006, winning a Grammy for
Best Hard Rock Performance for "B. Y. O. B." All four band members are of
Armenian heritage, and the Armenian Holocaust of World War I figures prominently
in their lyrics. Shavo Odajian plays bass guitar and adds background
vocals. John Dolmayan is the drummer. DaronMalakian performs vocals
and guitar. Serj Tankian is lead vocalist, also heard on keyboard and rhythm
guitar. In 2006, the group announced it was taking an extended hiatus of
undetermined length, but would re-unite when the time seemed right. Bottom left
