T.A. WILSON. Magazine Cover signed: "T.A. Wilson". Color, 8x10¾. Cover of "Time" magazine, April 7, 1980 issue. Illustration of "Boeing Boss/T.A. Wilson" on front. Cover story: "Flying High/$4 Billion for the Cruise Missile". In 1980, Boeing captured the $4 billion Cruise missile contract, the biggest U.S. Air Force contract since the Vietnam War, beating out its archrival, General Dynamics. Thornton Arnold Wilson (1921-1999), who was known simply as "T", retired as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Boeing Company at the end of 1987 after a 42-year career with Boeing. He assumed the role of Chairman Emeritus and remained a member of the Board until 1993. Wilson, who joined Boeing in 1943, was associated with the B-47 bomber before becoming project engineer for the B-52 program. He then led the proposal team and took over general management of the Minuteman intercontinental ballistic missile program. Elected Vice President of Boeing in 1963, Wilson was placed in charge of operations and planning for corporate headquarters the following year. He became company President in 1968 and was elected CEO in 1969. Elected Chairman of the Board in 1972, Wilson served as CEO until 1986. A life member of the Corporation of Massachusetts of Technology (and a Sloan Fellow there in 1952), Wilson was enshrined in the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 1983 and the National Business Hall of Fame in 1989. Slightly creased. Light stain from removal of address label at lower left margin. Fine condition.
