The New York State Budget director signs this letter sending a photograph on behalf of
Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller
Typed Letter signed: “T. N. Hurd” 1p, 7¼x10½. September 25, 1972. On official letterhead
of the State of New York Executive Chamber. Addressed to: Mr. Paul J. Friscat, Canton,
Ohio. Written to “Dear Mr. Friscat”. In full: “Governor Rockefeller has asked me to thank you
for your recent letter./ In response to your request, enclosed is a photograph which the Governor was
pleased to autograph for you./ Sincerely". T. Norman Hurd (1910-1999) was raised on a farm
in Michigan. He attended Michigan State University and, after graduating, he became a
professor of agricultural economics at his alma mater. Hurd went on to serve as budget
director for Thomas E. Dewey and continued to work in that capacity for Governor for
Nelson A. Rockefeller. Hurd and Rockefeller developed a strong professional relationship,
with Rockefeller eventually appointing him as Secretary to the Governor. He subsequently
worked in various capacities for Rockefeller. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
