Carl Anderson, Rube Goldberg, Dick Moores, Jerry Scott, Otto Soglow, Pat Sullivan,
and Russ Westover sign and draw their own cartons.
Comprises: (1) DICK MOORES. Cartoon signed: "Dick Moores". B/w, 5x6¾. Dick
Moores (1909-1986), a former assistant to Chester Gould on "Dick Tracy" and a Disney
animator, is best known for working with Frank King on "Gasoline Alley", which Moores
took over upon King's death in 1969. Fine condition. (2) RUBE GOLDBERG. Original Art
inscribed and signed: "Love to/Jane Ann/Bodenheimer/from/Boob McNutt,/Mike &
Ike/Pearl &/Bertha/Rube Goldberg./Aug./1934". B/w, 6x7¾. Rube Goldberg (1883-1970),
who is also known for his complicated contrivances, has drawn the characters from
"Boob McNutt", which he introduced in 1915, on letterhead of The Balsams, Dixville Notch,
New Hampshire. Horizontal fold touches characters, light horizontal crease at 2 letters of
characters' names. Fine condition. (3) CARL ANDERSON. Original Art signed:
"Carl/Anderson". B/w, 4x5¼. Pen and ink drawing of Carl Anderson's (1865-1948) comic
strip character Henry, who was picked up by King Features Syndicate in 1934.
Mid-horizontal fold at blank area. Fine condition. (4) JERRY SCOTT. Original Art signed:
"Best Wishes/from/Jerry Scott/& Nancy!" B/w, 6¼x4¾. Jerry Scott, who has drawn Nancy
and a dog, took over the "Nancy" comic strip in 1983, drawing it for 12 years. He is also
the co-creator of two recent strips, "Baby Blues" and "Zits". Fine condition. (5) OTTO
SOGLOW. Original Art inscribed and signed: "With best/wishes to/Miss C. Becker/O.
Soglow". B/w, 4x5¼. Otto Soglow (1900-1975) featured the "Little King" in a number of
cartoons before the character was picked up in syndication in 1934. He drew "Little King"
strips until his death in 1975. Mid-horizontal fold touches drawing. Fine condition. (6) RUSS
WESTOVER. Original Art inscribed and signed: "Andy - Tillie's/New
Jitterbug/friend/Russ/Westover". B/w, 3x5½. Russ Westover (1886-1966) introduced his
most famous strip, "Tillie the Toiler" in 1921, drawing it until his retirement in 1954.
Slightly soiled. Fine condition. (7) PAT SULLIVAN. Original Art signed: "Pat - Sullivan
-/1925". B/w, 2¼x3½. Pen and ink drawing of Felix the Cat, the most famous character
created at the animation studios of Pat Sullivan (1887-1933). Although Felix, introduced
in 1917, was often attributed to Sullivan, he was actually created by animator Otto Messmer,
who worked at Sullivan's studio. Slightly soiled. Fine condition. Seven items. Framed to an
overall size of 45x22½.
