TAMARA GRIGORIEVA
Rare signature from the ballerina and Teatro Colón director on a 9¼x12 photograph of her in costume
Photograph signed: "A Franceso/[illegible] sinceremnts/Tamara Grigorieva", in blue ink, 9¼x12. Ballerina and dancer Tamara Grigorieva (1918-2010) was born in Russia, but studied in France, being trained by Russian Imperial Ballerina Olga Preobrajenska. She first danced with the Balanchine's Les Ballets, and then settled into the Colonel de Basil's Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo for several years, appearing in roles such as the Nymph in Afternoon of a Faun and the Polovtsian Woman in Fokine's Prince Igor. She left the ballet company in 1944 and moved to South America, where she remained for the rest of her life, spending 20 years director, ballet mistress, and choreographer of Teatro Colón. Corners creased and worn, esp. bottom right corner. Lightly toned. Slightly soiled. Left edge slightly frayed and worn. Very small and faint tears on bottom and left edges. Otherwise, fine condition.
