Herbert Middleton Jr., is an actor known for his portrayal of Detective Neal Washington
on the popular police drama Hill Street Blues (1981-1987). Blacque got his start acting at
the New Federal Theater in New York. Some of his earliest TV appearances were guest spots
on What's Happening!! (1976-1979), Good Times (1974-1979), and The Bob Newhart
Show (1972-1978). In 1981, Blacque landed a major role on Hill Street Blues (1981-1987)
and went on to earn an Emmy Nomination in 1982 for his work on the show. Blacque
also enjoyed a fairly successful stage career, winning a 1986 NAACP image award for his
performance in Amen Corner. One of the first single black men in the U.S. to successfully
adopt a child, Blacque became a national spokesperson for adoption. Corners lightly worn.
