Caldwell (1900-1985, born Janet Taylor Caldwell in Manchester, England)
was an American novelist who specialized in family sagas and historical fiction.
Caldwell started her writing career relatively late in life in her adopted home
town of Eggertsville, New York, outside Buffalo, New York, after being employed
as a court reporter in the New York State Department of Labor and the
Immigration and Naturalization Service. Her first novel was Dynasty of
Death (1938), was the first of several bestsellers written by her.
It was a saga about a family of munitions makers that continued in The
Eagles Gather (1940) and The Final Hour (1944). Dynasty of
Death was written with her second husband Marcus Reback. Caldwell wrote a
total of over 40 novels and other books published between 1938 and 1994, most of
which were popular dramatic historical novels and many of which were adapted for
TV and movies. Lightly toned. Signature has bled slightly. Light
show-through from writing on verso touches signature. Irregular edges. Otherwise
in fine condition.
