Turner's transformation of Atlanta's UHF television station TBS into the first "superstation" is credited with accelerating the spread of cable television nationwide. His other innovations include CNN (the first 24-hour news station) and Turner Network Television (TNT), which shows films from the libraries of MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer). In 1996, Turner Broadcasting System (TBS), the parent company for Turner's businesses, was purchased by Time Warner for $7.6 billion. In 1997, Turner, Vice Chairman of Time Warner's board of directors and head of the division overseeing TBS businesses, pledged $1 billion to the United Nations for humanitarian causes. Turner owns baseball's Atlanta Braves. Fine condition.
