TED WILLIAMS
Marketing agreement signed with his son, John Henry Williams and two
others
Document signed: "Ted Williams", "John Henry Williams", "Brian Interland",
"Jerry Brenner", 1 page, 8½x11. Florida, 1991 May 5. Notarized. Ted
Williams grants permission to the three co-signers, doing business as Grand Slam
Marketing, to use his name and likeness on a T-shirt and hat on the 50th
anniversary of his .400 season. TED WILLIAMS (1918-2002) played outfield
for the Boston Red Sox from 1939-1960, taking off time to fight in World War II
and Korea. Combining keen vision with quick wrists and a scientific approach to
hitting, he was the last to hit over .400 (.406 in 1941), leading the
American League in hitting six times. His lifetime batting average is .344 with
521 home runs. The Splendid Splinter's accomplishments include two Triple
Crowns, two MVPs, six American League batting championships and 18 All-Star Game
selections. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1966. JOHN HENRY
WILLIAMS (1968-2004), Ted Williams' only son, actively involved in
sports and internet marketing, faced frequent lawsuits and bankruptcy
proceedings. Reversing the usual career progression, he entered minor league
baseball at age 33 (in 2002), but had little success. After Ted's death, John
Henry produced a controversial document expressing his father's wish to be kept
in cryogenic suspension, on the chance that future medical advances would
permit resuscitation. (The will was contested by family members, and its
authenticity questioned by sports writer Leigh Montville, but the courts upheld
its legality. John Henry now resides near his father in a cryogenic chamber in
Scottsdale, Arizona. BRIAN INTERLAND and JERRY BRENNER, John Henry
Williams' partners at Grand Slam Marketing and other ventures, remain active in
Jerry Brenner Promotions, a private fund-raising service based in Brookline,
Massachusetts. Top edge slightly frayed. Slightly creased at top right corner.
Slightly soiled at top right corner. Fine condition.
